This weekend we started on Saturday by going shopping at Home Depot for an over range micro & deep freeze.
We left with both and a fridge (Dude. A SBS fridge w/ water for $530. 24CF. How could we NOT.)
This followed by swimming at the community pool. Not the warmest pool is an understatement. Reminds me of a pool in Billings MT that I did a syncro competition in in HS that was FRIGID. At least you have the sun to warm you back up...
Sunday Daddy had Drill all day, so the kids & I went to church, home for nap, then errand running. Dinner was MustGos followed by a TV version of Night in the Museum I.
Monday we all got up early and left for Thomasville. Daddy has drill all day and is a part of the all day Memorial Day thing there. It's pretty good if you ever get to go. Parade at 11:45 w/ lots of military vehicles, scale planes and this year, about 15 "little miss cinderella princess of the obscure club" winners. Dude. Whatever. Hubby's unit is the only band that plays (Helloooooo....Thomasville HS????).
After the parade everyone heads for the stadium where there is a helicopter on the field and some facepainting, etc going on. The 440th NG Band plays a concert and then parachuters jump out for a landing on the field. More Memorial day talks & presentations with the Gold Ribbon Families (Families of Soldiers that have died in combat). Then the copter takes off for everyone to watch. The boy LOVED it. Baby Airborne?
J is getting big enough that I can explain some of what is going on and who is "in the cars". It is making an impression I think.
The biggest excitement of the day has to be when J was in the copter and I had backed off of the thing w/ Baby Boy and was waiting for her. She couldn't find me. So she DID EVERYTHING WE TAUGHT HER. She talked to a Uniform who got her to the "find me spot" and told them my name so they could say it over the loud speaker. Mommy embarrassment aside, I'm very proud of her. And she knows it.
After the fun, a short memorial service follows w/ a 21 gun salute & a speech. The grandson of the guy that founded the memorial park replaced the temporary markers of the 50 doners with permanent ones for his Eagle project. Kinda cool.
This year we remembered umbrellas to shade for the sun in the stands, hats for everyone and some munchies. Missed the Boy's upper arms on Sunscreen again. *sigh*. Not as bad a burn as last time, but it is red.
